Box Score HOLLAND, MI - The Benedictine University men's soccer team finished a difficult week with a 2-1 overtime loss at Hope College.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine dominated the statistics but could not put one than one in the goal
• The opening 45 minutes were relatively even with Benedictine holding a 4-3 edge in shots but none were on goal
• Hope opened the scoring in the 41st minute and moments later Nick Kapetanos hit the crossbar
• Kapetanos put the first shot on goal early in the second half but was thwarted
• The Hope goalie made consecutive saves in the 65th minute, halting a penalty kick attempt from Kapetanos and deflecting a rebound from Alejandro Vences
• Aldreiron Smith evened the game in the 85th minute and Benedictine produced two quick chances at the lead in the 86th minute but could not score
• Hope tallied the game-winner on a header off a free kick just over two minutes into the first overtime

"A wise man once told me that set pieces are life and death in soccer," head coach Attila Schmidt said. "Today, we missed a penalty kick and allowed two goals on free kicks. Congrats to Hope, who achieved a terrific victory in overtime after playing a man down for over 30 minutes. That is no easy task, but they found a way to get something out of their chances and that is what this game is about."
