RIVER FOREST, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team had a late flurry come short in a loss to second-seeded Dominican University in the NACC Tournament semifinals.

• Both teams were able to generate offense early in the contest
• Dominican struck first in the 14th minute of the match
• A slotted pass to the top of the box resulted in a tap-in to open the scoring
• It did not take long for Benedictine to respond, tying the game in the 17th minute
• Erik Stammer netted his 14th goal of the season, converting on a pair of quick passes from Carlos Gallardo and Nick Kapetanos to slide home the equalizer into the back side
• The remainder of the opening 45 minutes played even
• Benedictine created attempts in the 21st and 22nd minute with a Kapetanos shot blocked and a Gallardo blast denied by a defender, saving the potential go-ahead tally
• Dominican missed high on a last second attempt before the break
• The second-seeded hosts strung together early chances in the second half with a corner and two shots, one of which was saved by Antonio Marti Polo
• The deciding goal scored in the 50th minute
• Following back-to-back clearances, a one-touch blast from the top of the box found the back of the net
• Benedictine immediately countered with three attempts to tie
• Stammer missed up, Santiago Beltran was blocked and a Kapetanos follow resulted in a save
• The final 10 minutes saw frantic attempt after frantic attempt
• Benedictine had six corner kicks in the last sequence
• Kapetanos hit the crossbar in the 90th minute and a follow from Alex Unzueta missed wide as time expired


• Benedictine posted 11 shots in the second half and 20 for the match, holding a 20-11 advantage
• Eight of the shots from Benedictine ended up on target
• Kapetanos notched six shots and Stammer added five
• Francisco Delgado, Elber Haro and Gallardo all notched a pair of opportunities
• Marti Polo finished with a pair of saves
