Box Score AURORA, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team opened play at the Aurora University Spartan Classic by collecting a 1-0 shutout victory over Alma College on Friday.

• Alma received an early corner kick, creating a chance in the sixth minute, but Antonio Marti Polo tallied the save
• Benedictine countered quickly, but an attempt from George Soipan was thwarted
• Benedictine kept the pressure on, creating chance after chance in the opening 45
• The only goal of the contest happened in the closing moments of the first half
• Francisco Delgado fired home a blast from 35 yards out to beat the halftime buzzer
• Both teams pressed in the second half but no one could score
• Alma made an attempt in the final minute but missed high


• Marti Polo stopped six shots in goal to tally his second consecutive 1-0 shutout victory
• Benedictine held a 7-3 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes and finished the game with a 13-10 advantage
• Delgado and Santiago Beltran each notched three shots in the win
• Nick Kapetanos and Soipan each posted two
