LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team dropped an intense matchup with the leaders of the conference on Saturday night.

THE DETAILS
• With first place in the standings on the line, both teams countered regularly
• Aldreiron Smith and
Santiago Beltran put shots on goal minutes apart
• MSOE scored the first goal in the 22nd minute on a header to an open player who was able to get in front of the defense and score
• Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Benedictine changed looks to open the second and came out with several early opportunities
• Hayden Van Son and
Lukasz Sulka put shots on target
• Erik Stammer cleaned up the attempt from Sulka by poking the ball into an open net to tie the score in the 48th minute
• A couple of quick chances followed for Benedictine but the score remained even
• MSOE took a 2-1 lead in the 67th minute following a cross that was flicked into the air
• Despite several attempts, Benedictine could not put another shot on target in dropping the tight affair
• Benedictine held a 16-15 edge in shots with nine on goal
• The pace picked up in the second half with Benedictine holding a 12-11 edge in shots
• Stammer led Benedictine with four attempts while Smith and Van Son each posted three
• Shawn Chervets stopped four shots in goal
• MSOE has won 12 straight matches and sits alone in first place in the NACC
