RIVER FOREST, IL - The Benedictine University football team ended the season with a 54-41 win at Concordia Chicago, putting up a season high total for points.
Benedictine did not trail in the contest, building a huge first quarter lead. Benedictine opened the game by recovering an onside kick. The team proceeded to utilize an eight-play drive to open the scoring on a 15-yard run from quarterback
Tyler Jarnagin. Forcing a three-and-out, Benedictine moved 69 yards in under two minutes to pad the lead to 14-0.
Alex Mitchell caught a 45-yard pass on the drive which ended with a nine-yard run from
Joshua Williams.
The defense stopped Concordia Chicago deep on the Benedictine side and the offense used another quick drive to move ahead 21-0. Williams broke off a 35-yard run as part of a 76-yard drive in just 1:45.
Brandon Moore caught a 15-yard touchdown with 2:19 left in the quarter.
Troy Menna pushed the lead to 27-7 late in the second, breaking away for a 35-yard touchdown run. Benedictine held a 27-13 lead at halftime.
A whole lot of Williams opened the second half as Benedictine scored on the opening drive to make the score 34-13 after a five-yard run. The defense was again able to stop Concordia Chicago deep on the offensive end and needed just three plays to move ahead 41-13 on a 47-yard run from Williams with 7:19 left in the third.
James Ellis picked off a pass to help seal the game. Williams scored again from two yards out with 14:53 left in the game to make the score 48-20. Williams tallied another rushing touchdown with 4:26 left, accounting for the final Benedictine points.
Both teams totaled over 500 yards in the contest. Benedictine posted 314 yards on the ground and 213 through the air. Williams finished with 227 yards rushing, a career high, and matched the conference record with five rushing touchdowns. The five touchdowns also matched the school single game mark while 30 points evened the record as well. Mitchell caught six passes for 100 yards and Moore notched 86 yards on five grabs. Jarnagin threw for 210 yards in his first start.
Scottie Bobeck led the defense with 11 tackles including three for loss.
Jalaan Owens added nine stops.
Benedictine ended the season with a 3-7 mark and a 3-4 record in the NACC.
