Women's Soccer Upends Beloit

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's soccer team finished the opening weekend of play with another victory, holding off Beloit College on Sunday.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine set the tone from the onset of the match
• Shots from Abbie Graham and Holly Ward set up back-to-back corner kick chances
• Katy Fredericksen hit the crossbar in the 12th minute
• Despite all the chances, Benedictine came up empty in the opening 45
• Graham converted on a quick strike after a through ball from Fredericksen in the opening minute of the second half to put Benedictine on the board
• Chances kept coming for both teams as the pace picked up
• Graham netted her third goal of the weekend on a free kick from the top of the box in the 83rd minute to stretch the lead to 2-0
• Beloit scored late, cutting the lead in half in the 89th minute on a quick finish of a cross, but Benedictine held on for the final two minutes to win
• Benedictine strung together nine shots in each half, finishing with 18
• Graham tallied eight shots
• Cassidy Henson stopped two shots in goal

"Another good win for us today," said head coach Kyle Stewart. "We made some adjustment from the first game and it was very evident today. We were able to create more opportunities in and around the box. I am very proud and excited for how the team is responding on the field.

UP NEXT
Benedictine (2-0) continues a string of five consecutive matches at home on Wednesday night against Elmhurst College in another non-conference match up at 7:00 p.m. following the men's match. The team sits 2-0 to start the season for the first time since 2003.
