LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's soccer team put together one of the best efforts of the year, but came up just short following a late goal in a 2-1 loss to Webster University.

THE DETAILS
• Webster has won six straight titles in the SLIAC and defeated both Concordia Chicago and Dominican from the NACC in earlier non-conference games
• Most of the contest was played in the midfield
• The visitors created several chances in the middle of the first 45, but
Cassidy Henson and the defense rose to the challenge
• Eve Meintz put a shot on target in the closing minutes of the half
• The first goal of the match came in the 58th minute
• Following a foul,
Sammie Sarles put a free kick from 40 yards out into the vicinity of the goal
• The ball was re-directed off the foot of a defender and into the goal to give Benedictine a 1-0 lead
• Just over 10 minutes later Webster was able to tie the game by threading the needle through traffic in front of the net
• The game's deciding goal came inside the final two minutes
• Webster drove home the winner under the crossbar following a cross
• The game was played relatively even statistically with Webster holding an 11-6 edge in shots
• Meintz led Benedictine with two shots
• Henson recorded three saves in goal
FROM THE COACH
"There were a lot of positives to take away from this game," head coach
Kyle Stewart said. "The result didn't fall our way, but the strides we are making on the field are there. There are still some areas that we have to clean up, but we competed against a very good Webster side and I was pleased with the performance overall. We will look to bounce back on Tuesday."

Benedictine (2-2) ends a stretch of five consecutive home games to begin the season by welcoming North Central on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. The game will serve as Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night.
