LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team dropped a double overtime decision to Aurora in a key conference matchup on Wednesday night.

THE DETAILS
• While both teams were able to move end-to-end in the first 45 minutes, neither could score as the defenses did a good job of cutting off angles and denying extra passes to prevent open attempts on goal
• Aurora was able to post a pair of shots in the first 10 minutes but Benedictine countered after an offside with
Aldreiron Smith putting an attempt on goal
• Benedictine put a pair of shots on goal in the opening 45, but Aurora held a 5-4 edge in shots
• Early in the second half
Andrew Leon hit the crossbar
• The visitors countered off the cross bar and ran up the field to open the scoring in the 51st minute with a lob over the goalie, who had come out to challenge
• The second half continued with both teams racing up and down the field and putting together scoring opportunities
• George Omondi-Soipan had an attempt following a corner kick blocked
• The near misses for both team continued until the 85th minute when

• Aurora had a last ditch effort on a free kick with the countdown on but
Martin Jimenez-Estrada easily handled the ball to send the contest to extra time
• Aurora notched 12 shots in the second half with Benedictine adding nine; Six of the nine for Benedictine were on goal
• Both teams came out with solid energy in overtime, but a free kick set up the winning goal in the second extra session in the 108th minute
• Jimenez-Estrada made 10 saves in goal
• Aurora held a 22-16 edge in shots with 12 on goal
