CHICAGO, IL - The Benedictine University women's soccer team saw their 2019 season come to an end in heart-breaking fashion with an overtime loss to Illinois Tech in the opening round of the NACC Tournament.

THE DETAILS
• Seeded sixth, Benedictine was sent on the road in the opening round of the conference tournament
• The regular season meeting with Illinois Tech was a scoreless draw in double overtime at Benedictine
• The second meeting was nearly identical with both teams playing strong on defense and cutting off angles to deny solid looks
• Benedictine put a pair of shots on target in the first 15 minutes but
Abbie Graham and
Holly Ward were both denied
• Stephanie Nichols also created a chance in the closing moments of the half but could not score
• The defense remained strong in the second half as early attempts from Graham and
Sammie Sarles in the first two minutes could not put Benedictine on top
• Both teams put together multiple attempts in a frantic final 10 minutes before the contest went to overtime
• Cassidy Henson made an initial save in overtime in the 92nd minute bu a one-on-one opportunity in the 93rd minute produced the lone goal and sent Illinois Tech to the semifinals
• Illinois Tech held a 21-15 edge in shots with 12 on goal
• Henson stopped 11 shots for Benedictine
RECORD
Benedictine finished the season with a 7-10-2 mark. The team played six games decided by a goal and were 1-5 in those contests. Benedictine won the final three contests of the regular season to reach the conference tournament.
