It is with great pleasure that Benedictine University announces the appointment of
Steven Shelley to the position of head men's track and field coach.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to advance my career as the head coach of the Benedictine University men's track and field program," Shelley said. "I look forward to working with my team, athletes, and administration to build a winning legacy."
Shelley, a native of Chicago, brings ten years of track & field coaching experience to the Benedictine program. He joins the program after most recently serving as the assistant men's and women's track and field coach at St. Xavier University. Shelley worked with the long sprints group while at St. Xavier.

"We are very excited to welcome Steve (Shelley) to the men's track and field program," said director of athletics Paul Nelson. "We are eager to have him work with the student-athletes within the program."
Prior to St. Xavier, Shelley spent six years as the assistant coach at Homewood-Flossmoor High School for the girls track and field program. Homewood-Flossmoor captured the IHSA 3A State championship in 2019. Shelley also assisted the boys' cross-country program at Homewood-Flossmoor.

Shelley has been working with the Zephyrs Track Club where he developed multiple All–Americans and National Champions while serving as Site Coordinator for the south suburban location.

Shelley graduated from Chicago State University in 1995 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. While a student-athlete for the Cougars, Shelley earned the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award in 1994. He also holds a USATF Level 2 Certification in sprints, hurdles, and relays.

Shelley lives in the south suburbs with his wife and children.

Shelley will begin his duties in January as the program looks to build upon a successful 2021-22 campaign.
