Brian Visser

Brian Visser heads into his second season as a member of the Benedictine coaching staff as Goalkeeper Coach and assumes the responsibility of training the team’s goalkeepers on a daily basis. In Visser’s first season training the goalkeepers, Benedictine saw drastic improvements in goals against average (1.65), save percentage (.733), and shutouts (5). Visser guided starter Zorohn Reed to All-NACC 2nd Team honors along the way to the 2013 NACC Championship.

Visser’s career as a player could be a reason why he’s fared so well in a coaching role. A four year starter at DePaul, Visser led the Blue Demons to program highs and set individual school records. In 2007, Visser guided DePaul to a Big East regular season title and an NCAA Tournament berth. For his efforts, Visser was the 2007 Big East Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-Big East. He left DePaul holding records in career shutouts, shutouts in a season, and best goals against average in a season.

While he excelled between the posts, Visser also succeeded in the classroom, earning three selections to the All-Big East Academic team and once named an NSCAA All-Scholar All-American. The Elmhurst native has spent the last three years in the professional ranks of American soccer, with stints at the Portland Timbers, Real Maryland Monarchs, and Dayton Dutch Lions.

“Brian brings with him some impressive accomplishments both as a collegiate goalkeeper at DePaul and as a professional,” says Head Coach Rich Nassif. “We are really fortunate to have such a tremendous goalkeeper coach who is a shining example of the balance and focus it takes to be a successful student-athlete. Our goalkeepers are in tremendous hands and they have already made huge strides under his direction and guidance. Moving forward, we expect to have one of the best goalkeepers in the conference and region every year because we know Coach Visser will have that person prepared better than any.”

A Finance major at DePaul, Visser continues to play in the semi-professional leagues around Chicago. Visser holds an IYSA E License while working with local clubs Oswego Panthers and Kickers SC.
