Eric Sorby joins the Benedictine University men’s and women’s soccer coaching staffs prior to the 2014 season. He brings a strong soccer background to both programs, which will enhance the playing experience of BenU’s student-athletes.

A 2014 graduate of DePaul with a Physical Education degree and a Business Administration minor, Sorby has coached the game since arriving in college in 2009. This past year, he was on the coaching staff for the girl’s soccer team at Libertyville High School, handling all goalkeeper training. Prior to Libertyville, Sorby coached for Chicago Elite FC U12 for two years and served as a camp counselor for Northwestern University, DePaul University, and Sports Made Personal.

Sorby also bring a decorated athletic background to Benedictine, having played at Division I DePaul for four seasons. In his junior and senior year, he was named team captain, and served on the “Captain’s Counsel” from his sophomore through senior year. On the field, he earned team Defensive MVP honors his sophomore and senior seasons and was voted the team’s Most Outstanding Performer his senior year.

In addition, Sorby stood out in the classroom at DePaul, garnering Big East Academic All-Star honors all four seasons, NSCAA Scholar All-North/Central Region Second Team honors, and a selection to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. In addition, he was a recipient of the Rev. Edward F. Riley C.M. Memorial Award, the James R. Doyle Outstanding Student Leader Award, and a nominee for the Big East Sports Excellence Award.

“We are very fortunate to be adding a young coach of Eric’s background and character,” said Head Men’s Soccer Coach Rich Nassif. “Fresh off a playing career at DePaul, Eric possesses a great balance of knowledge, passion, and ability to connect with our team. Eric will work with all of our players on a daily basis, most notably with team training, game film, match preparation, player well-being, and as the Head Coach of our Reserve Team. We are very excited to have him on board and expect Eric to help us reach our team goals while further enhancing the quality of our student-athlete experience.”
