Brunner came to Benedictine in the fall of 2019 to lead the throws program and made an immediate impact with five individual scoring performances at the NACC Indoor Championships.
Brunner came to Benedictine following a highly successful four-year stint at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Milwaukee placed over 100 athletes on the podium at the Horizon League Championships in throwing events indoors and outdoors during his tenure including 31 during the 2019 indoor and outdoor season. Brunner guided 18 Horizon League Athletes of the Week and helped over athletes post 40 marks in the program's top-10 list in throwing events including five school records. Overall, athletes won nine Horizon League titles under the tutelage of Brunner along with nine runner-up finishes.
Brunner competed at the NCAA Division III level at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, finishing fourth in the nation in the weight throw in 2014 while qualifying for nationals three times in the hammer.
