Shelley, a native of Chicago, brings 13 years of track & field coaching experience to the Benedictine program. He joined the program after serving one season as an assistant at St. Xavier University. Shelley oversaw sprints and relays while at St. Xavier and helped the program break the indoor record in the 4x400.
Prior to St. Xavier, Shelley spent six years as the assistant coach at Homewood-Flossmoor High School for the girls track and field program. Homewood-Flossmoor captured the IHSA 3A State championship in 2019 in addition to finishing as the runner-up four times (2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022). Shelley also assisted the boys' cross-country program at Homewood-Flossmoor which produced state qualifiers in multiple seasons.
Shelley coached 10 years with the Zephyrs Track Club where he developed multiple All-Americans and National Champions while serving as Site Coordinator for the south suburban location.
Shelley graduated from Chicago State University in 1995 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. While a student-athlete, Shelley earned the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award in 1994. He also holds a USATF Level 2 Certification in sprints, hurdles, and relays.
