Infield/hitting coach Ed Zeifert joined the Benedictine coaching staff prior to the spring 2008 season after serving as head coach at the College of Lake County (CLC) for two seasons.
Zeifert posted a record of 56-47 during his two seasons as head coach at CLC, producing 15 All-Skyway Conference and two all-region selections and leading his team to a No. 4 regional seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II playoffs in 2006.
Zeifert has also served as an assistant coach at numerous camps and clinics, an assistant coach at CLC, an assistant coach with the DuPage Dragons of the Central Illinois Collegiate League and an assistant coach at his alma mater, Clarke College, during the 2003-04 season.
Although he attended Clarke College, the Zeiferts are no strangers to Benedictine University. Zeifert’s father Gregg and uncle Christopher attended the University. Additionally, during Zeifert’s collegiate days, Clarke College was a member of the same conference as Benedictine (the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference) prior to the formation of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
A four-year letterwinner in baseball at Clarke, Zeifert earned a bachelor’s degree in history in 2003 and was a Dean’s List performer throughout his eight semesters of college.
In addition to his baseball duties, Zeifert oversees Benedictine’s game-day management for athletic events. He and his staff are responsible for everything from facility setup to staffing.
