Benedictine's men's soccer team earned a Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) win at home on Saturday, topping Maranatha Baptist Bible College, 3-1. The win improved the Eagles to 6-9 overall and 2-6 in the NAC.
Izzy Castro got Benedictine out on the right foot with his goal at the 34:44 minute mark of the match, thanks to an assist from
Cesar Martinez. The 1-0 score stood through halftime.
Then, just under five minutes into the second half, Castro struck again on an unassisted goal as Benedictine enjoyed the 2-0 advantage.
Martinez gave BU some insurance in the 60th minute of play by finding the net after receiving a perfect pass from
Genaro Sepulveda. Martinez's goal made it 3-0 in favor of Benedictine.
Maranatha tallied its goal in the 69th minute for the 3-1 final score.
Jim Hanley worked the first half in the net for the Eagles, posting four saves in 45 minutes of shutout work.
Orlando Esparza took over in the second half and allowed the MBBC goal.
Benedictine out-shot the Crusaders by a 12-6 margin for the match.
