A goal by Benedictine University sophomore
Ryan Kozin in the 49th minute of play proved to be all that either team would be able to produce in a 1-0 win over Rockford College. The victory upped the Eagles record to 7-9 overall and 3-6 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
After a fairly even, scoreless, first half of play - Benedictine had five shots to four by the Regents - the Eagles extended things in the second stanza. BU held a 12-4 shot advantage, including the goal by Kozin.
Kozin took a corner kick from
Cesar Martinez on the left face of the goal and shot it in the upper third. It was Kozin's fifth goal of the season.
Meanwhile, BU goaltender
Orlando Esparza made four saves in registering his second shutout in five starts in the nets (he also has one combined shutout with
Jim Hanley). Esparza's blanking of Rockford was the fourth shutout, overall, this season by the Eagles.
It was also Benedictine's second-consecutive win.
