Box Score
Benedictine University's men's soccer team got back on the winning road on Friday evening, taking a non-conference win at Robert Morris University-Springfield, 1-0. The victory upped the Eagles' record to 4-7 overall.
The win also snapped a six-match losing streak by BU.
The lone goal of the match came from
Christopher Madro in the 54th minute of play. Madro converted a free kick after a foul had been assessed against RM-S. The goal was Madro's first of 2009.
Benedictine out-shot Robert Morris by a 15-8 margin for the evening. Seven BU shots were directly on goal.
Meanwhile, Benedictine goalkeepers
Jim Hanley and
Orlando Esparza combined to pitch the team's third shutout of the season (all, ironically, by identical 1-0 scores).
Hanley had three saves during his 45 minute stint in the first half. Esparza took over in the second half and added a pair of stops, as well.
