Weekend showdown poses great opportunity

Benedictine's matchup Saturday with Lake Forest poses a great opportunity for the Eagles to get back into the win column

Terry Licht has been a model of efficiency for the Eagles this year.
To say Benedictine is looking for a win would be a bit of an understatement. Benedictine’s men basketball team has not won a game since the beginning of the month and has dropped two straight contests.

However, this weekend poses a great opportunity for BU, as the Eagles will head to Lake Forest on Saturday to take on the 2-6 Foresters.

Lake Forest is also stuck in a bit of a rut, dropping three straight games and five of its last six. While the team is led by a couple potent scorers in Travis Clark (14.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg) and Victor Campbell (11.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg), Lake Forest has difficulty stopping opposing teams. The Foresters have allowed 75.8 points per game to opponents.

The key for Benedictine (3-4, 1-2 in Northern Athletics Conference) is keeping up its tempo. The Eagles have outscored opponents 252-229 in the first half this year while being outscored 268-248 in the second stanza.

Consistency of scoring has also been an issue for Benedictine as the Eagles still attempt to find an offensive identity. Cameron Snelling has a team-high 11.1 ppg, while also leading the team with 7.0 rebounds per game. Dan Klecan has also brought his scoring numbers to double-digits pouring in 10.1 ppg.

One of the bigger surprises of the year has been the efficiency of Terry Licht, who is averaging 9.9 ppg in just 18.3 minutes per game, while Nate Green has rounded out the Eagle attack with a team-high 3.7 assists per game.

Saturday’s contest has a 7:00 p.m. tipoff at Lake Forest College, located at 555 North Sheridan Road in Lake Forest. For those who cannot make the trip, Lake Forest will be hosting a live video webcast of the game at http://www.midwestconference.tv/ as well as providing live stats throughout the contest.
