WHEATON, Ill. - The Benedictine volleyball team went 1-3 this weekend at the Wheaton College Invitational volleyball tournament. The Eagles are now 6-11 overall.
Benedictine defeated Rockford College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-15), and lost to the eventual champion University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 2-3 (18-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21, 12-15) on Friday. On Saturday, the Eagles were swept by both Cornell College (Iowa) (25-27, 28-30, 19-25) and North Central College (22-25, 24-26, 11-25).
Junior
Kayla Leyden was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Wheaton event. It is the third time in as many tourneys for the Eagles in 2009 at which Leyden has earned all-tournament accolades.
On Friday, senior setter
Jessica Judge had a combined 37 assists for the pair of matches. Leyden had 36 total kills and junior libero
Jackie Rust was never asleep on defense as she dug 42 balls (27 alone versus UW-Eau Claire).
In Saturday's opener versus Cornell, Leyden had 15 kills and 15 digs, while
Sarah Porod added 10 kills in the loss. Versus North Central Rust's 16 digs was one of the few Eagle highlights as BU went down to the Cardinals for the second time this season.
