WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Benedictine University volleyball team split over the weekend, falling in three sets to Edgewood College but sweeping Maranatha Baptist Bible College the very next day.
Against Edgewood, the Eagles lost in straight sets (15-25, 23-25, 15-25). The Edgewood offense was too much for the Eagles as they out-hit BenU, 44-35 and had a .317 hitting percentage for the match. The Eagles offense struggled, tallying just seven kills in the first set and hitting .173 for the match.
Kayla Leyden led the Eagles with 10 kills and had a team high 12 digs. EC's Mallory Palmer led all players with 17 kills while Kim Lueck had a game high 13 digs.
Benedictine bounced back on Saturday to defeat Marantha in three sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-19) and out-hit MBBC 48-29. Leyden led all players with 17 kills while
Candice Cuppini registered 10 kills.
Kara Zuro had 21 assists while
Miranda Brannen had 2 blocks.
The women's volleyball team is back in action on Wednesday, October 13 when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center. October is breast cancer awareness month so please wear pink to the game. The first 50 students with pink on will receive a free athletics t-shirt.
