LISLE, Ill. – Conference play is just around the corner and both the Benedictine University men's and women's basketball teams open up Northern Athletics Conference action against Milwaukee School of Engineering this week in Milwaukee, Wis. The men take on the Raiders on Tuesday and the women on Wednesday.
On the men's side, MSOE is 5-0 on the season, most recently defeating the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 65-62 after defeating the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire 61-48 at the UW-Oshkosh Thanksgiving Classic. The Raiders also beat Beloit College 60-54 who the Eagles also beat 70-69, and also won their own tournament, the All-Engineers Classic.
The Raiders are led by senior forward Austin Meier who is averaging 13.4 points, 10.0 rebounds and has totaled 13 assists and 18 steals.
The Eagles look to hand MSOE their first loss of the season and pick up their third win of the year. Benedictine is currently 2-2 on the year, defeating Cornell College and Beloit College and falling to No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan University and Division II opponent, Lewis University. Junior guard
Nate Green leads the Eagles in scoring averaging 14.3 points per game and also has a team high 27 assists.
The BenU women's team is coming off a loss to No. 9 Carthage College, their first loss of the season. Previously, the Eagles defeated MacMurray College 70-50 in their season opener and also beat Franklin College, 61-39.
Leading the Eagles is junior guard Tracey Walsh, averaging 15.0 points per game while senior forward Jen Brenn averages 7.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
The Raiders are 1-1 on the year, defeating Eureka College 69-55 in their season opener but falling 66-50 to Lake Forest College. MSOE is led by Carol Cayo who has averaged 26.0 points and 10.5 rebounds so far this season.
