Benedictine Wins Battle of the Eagles

LISLE, Ill. – Nate Green led all players with 20 points and Cameron Snelling tallied 18 points to help lead the Benedictine University men's basketball team to a 75-70 win over Northern Athletics Conference opponent, Edgewood College on Saturday afternoon.

 
Benedictine's (3-4, 1-2) win gave Edgewood (5-4, 3-1) their first loss of the season in NAC play.
After trading leads throughout the first six minutes, Benedictine's offense took off, going up by as many as 11 points with three straight jumpers from AJ Brown and a three pointer from Brian Genslinger.
 
Edgewood would cut the Eagle lead to just three at half when Travis Schaaf hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for a 40-37 half-time.
 
Benedictine was 16-for-25 in the first half (64.0 percent) and 4-for-7 from beind the arc (57.1 percent).
 
The Eagles would hold on to a small lead for the first 10 minutes of the second half with Nate Green and Snelling contributing to most of the offense. A three-pointer from Dario Jokic and layup from Green would give the Eagles an eight-point lead, their highest of the second half but baskets from EC's Kent Faurote and Craig Cashton cut the lead to two.


With just a minute and a half remaining, Jerrell Tribble put the lead back to five with a three-pointer from the corner. As the seconds would down, Snelling and Green would make free-throw shots to secure the Eagles 75-70 victory over Edgewood.

 
Green led all players with 20 points while Snelling contributed 18 with a team high five rebounds. Jokic had 11 points and was three-for-five from behind the arc.

 
The BenU defense forced 17 Edgewood turnovers while the Eagles had just eight turnovers of their own. Edgewood out-rebounded Benedictien 25-20.
 
Cashton and Ben Wisniewski led EC with 19 points each.
 
The men's basketball team is back in action on Monday, December 20 when they host Concordia University-Chicago at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center.
