Eagles Ready For Home Opener

LISLE, Ill. - After enduring a heart-wrenching 31-20 loss to North Park University nearly two weeks ago, the Benedictine University football team has used a much needed bye week to prepare for their home-opener against Kalamazoo College Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.

The 6:30 p.m. contest will also mark the first of 10 athletics events that Benedictine Athletics will be broadcasting live with the help of VidTech. To watch the game live, click here.

While Saturday night's game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools, the matchup will also feature two programs looking to return to winning form.

After watching 2009 become their first winning season in ten years (6-4), the Eagles will enter Saturday's action with a 1-1 record.

With a misleading 0-3 record currently on their hands, not only are the Hornets hoping to avenge last season's 4-6 record, but they are also seeking their first winning season since 2003 when they went 6-4.

“We feel like we're looking at a team that could be 2-1. This is a pretty even matchup, as far as we can tell,” said head coach Jon Cooper. “It's not like we're playing a team that's a dog. They've had some bad luck. We expect a very tough football game and this may be the best team we've played so far.”

Despite the fact that Kalamazoo comes in with a less than stellar track record, Benedictine is well-aware of the formidable task that may be ahead of them.

“We know they're a passing team, so obviously we want to focus on our pass defense,” said Cooper. “This game is no more or less important than any other game we play and right now, this is the only game we're focused on.”

The Eagles kickoff at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 25 at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. For more information on the game, check out the GameDay Central page by clicking here.
