Eagles Down Spartans

 
LISLE, Ill. – Benedictine University used a 27-16 first half lead to defeat rival Aurora University, 58-44, on Thursday night in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
 
Both teams got off to a slow start, with the Eagles (8-5, 4-3) pulling out to a 7-4 lead with 15 minutes remaining. Neither team would score again for the next four minutes until a jumper from Jillian Lipman ended the scoring drought and put the Eagles up by five.

 
Aurora (3-11, 0-7) rallied back to tie the game at nine with less than nine minutes remaining and threatened to take the lead but the BenU offense came alive in the final minutes, going up by as many as 10 with three-pointers from Karyn Conerty and Sam Hathaway and taking a 27-16 halftime lead.

 
The Spartans slowly fought their way back into the game in the second half when a three-pointer from Makeda Queen cut their deficit to just two. The Eagle offense was jump started with buckets from Colleen Forkin and Tracey Walsh to go on a 14-4 run in the final eight minutes of play to defeat the Spartans 58-44.
 
Conerty and Jenn Bren both had 15 points while Bren also had a team high six rebounds. Walsh scored nine points with two assists while Forkin scored seven points and had five rebounds and three assists.

 
As a team, Benedictine shot 40.4 percent from the floor (21-for-52) and forced 18 Aurora turnovers. The Spartans out-rebounded the Eagles 47-35.
 
Ashley Daniels paced Aurora with 12 points.
