RIVER FOREST, Ill. - After dropping the first two sets, the Benedictine University volleyball team defeated Dominican University 25-14 in the third set. The Stars rallied back in the fourth set to defeat the Eagles, 3-1, on Saturday morning in Northern Athletics Conference action.
Dominican (25-5, 10-0 NAC) took the first set 25-11 and edged the Eagles 25-17 in the second. Benedictine (16-10, 9-2 NAC) tallied a huge 25-14 win in the third set, out-hitting the Stars with 15 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. The Eagles were ahead in the fourth set but let the Stars rally back to win 26-24.
Candice Cuppini led the Eagles with 12 kills while
Molly Kovacich tallied 11 kills and 11 digs.
Kara Zuro led the defense with 15 digs while
Haley Fitzgerald totaled 13 digs. Abby Sattler ended the game with 41 assists and two aces while
Brooke Bowman had nine kills and five block assists.
Dominican edged the Eagles in total kills, 51 to 45, while BenU out-dug the Stars 61-59. Claire Dezeleski led DU with 16 kills.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
