Stars Shine Over Eagles

BOX SCORE

LISLE, Ill. - After being down 1-0 heading into the second half, the Benedictine University men's soccer team tied the game in the 64th minute. The effort fell short as Dominican University scored a late second half goal to defeat the Eagles 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Dominican (10-1-0, 5-0-0 NAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on a goal from Logan Marvin. The Eagles (4-6-1, 2-2-1 NAC) held off the Stars offense for the rest of the half, only allowing four more shots.

Benedictine tallied three shots in the second half, one coming in the 64th minute from Alberto Mendez after he accepted a cross from Mustafa Abdelrahman, finding the back of the net to tie the game at one-all. Both teams frantically tried to resume possession of the ball as the minutes winded down. Dominican's offense came alive in the 80th minute when Lio Tovar scored the game-winning goal to help the Stars remain undefeated in Northern Athletics Conference action.

The Stars out-shot BenU 9-3 while the Eagles keeper, Orlando Esparza, had four saves on the night.

Men's soccer is back in action on Saturday night when they host Concordia University-Wisconsin at 7:00 p.m. for their homecoming game.
