LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University volleyball team was defeated by Edgewood College on Thursday night in the Northern Athletics Conference semifinal match. Edgewood defeated BenU 3-1.
Edgewood edged Benedictine in the first set, 25-21, before BenU came back to take the second set 25-23. The third set was a nail biter with EC winning the battle, 25-23, and going on to win the match with a 25-20 victory in set four.
All-NAC First Team selection,
Candice Cuppini led BenU with 15 kills while
Jackie Nudelman had a team high .333 hitting percentage with five kills and just one error in 12 attempts.
Molly Kovacich had eight kills and three block assists. On the defensive end, four Eagles tallied double-digit digs including
Kara Zuro who led all players with 22 digs.
Haley Fitzgerald had 11 digs while Abby Sattler and
Meagan Kmieciak totaled 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Sattler also tallied 35 assists in the match.
As a team, Edgewood out-hit BenU 58-44 with a .197 hitting percentage. Defensively EC also had the advantage with 85 digs compared to BenU's 80.
Edgewood's Mallory Palmer led all players with 20 kills and had 19 digs.
Benedictine ends their season with an 18-14 overall record and went 11-2 in the NAC with a second place regular season finish.
Edgewood moves on to the championship match against Dominican University on Saturday night.
