Women's Basketball Runs Past Raiders

BOX SCORE

LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University women's basketball team used a 34-26 halftime lead to defeat Milwaukee School of Engineering, 67-59, on Thursday night in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.

The lead changed between both teams in the first few minutes of the game until the Eagles (14-7, 10-5) pulled ahead and took a 10-point lead after a jumper from Tracey Walsh and never looked back. Benedictine would go up by as many as 13 in the first half, shooting 40.0 percent from the floor.

In the second half, MSOE (7-15, 4-11) made an attempt to cut into the BenU lead with layups from Shannon Larson and Carol Cayo but the Eagle defense was too much, forcing 10 turnovers on seven steals.

The Raiders did cut the lead to just five with thirty seconds remaining but Colleen Forkin hit three-of-four free-throws down the stretch and Walsh hit both of hers to secure the Eagles 67-59 victory.

Walsh led all players with 20 points while Forkin had 14 points and five rebounds. Jenn Bren had seven rebounds and four assists while Brittany Armato had seven points. Lidia Arias scored six points and had a game high seven steals.

As a team, the Eagles were 21-for-54 from the floor (38.9 percent) and 20-for-28 from the free-throw line (71.4 percent). Although the Eagles were out-rebounded 41-34, they forced 25 Raider turnovers on 16 steals.

Larson scored 18 points for MSOE while Cayo grabbed 16 rebounds.

Benedictine travels to Rockford, Ill. to take on Rockford College on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
