ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team used a 46-34 half-time lead to defeat Rockford College 97-86 on Saturday night in Northern Athletics Conference action.
Benedictine (16-6,11-3) jumped out to an early 16-2 lead in the first four minutes of action but the Regents went on an 11-1 run to cut their deficit to four.
The Eagles caught fire as
Dario Jokic,
Jerrell Tribble and
Brian Genslinger each hit a pair of three's to put BenU back up by 12. The Regents could not recover as the Eagles took a 46-34 half-time lead.
Benedictine was hot to start the second half, going up by as many as 22 points with three-pointers from Genslinger and
Terry Licht.
The Regents slowly tried to climb back into the game but the Eagle offense was too much as BenU went on to win 97-86.
Nate Green led all players with 26 points while Tribble scored a season high 23 points and eight rebounds. Tribble was a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc.
Cameron Snelling collected his 14th double-double of the season with 16 points and 19 rebounds. Genslinger and Licht also scored in double-figures with 10 and 11 points, respectively.
As a team, BenU shot 49.1 percent from the floor and had 37 rebounds compared to the Regents 38.
Robert Malone led Rockford with 20 points.
The men's basketball team is back in action when they host rival Aurora University on Tuesday night in the Rice Center. Wear white as the Eagles try to hang on to their first place seed in the NAC South.
