LISLE, Illinois - The Benedictine University football team suffered its first loss of the 2011 season, dropping a 38-20 decision at home to North Park University.
Benedictine never led in the game as North Park's Sam Cochiaro returned the opening kickoff 88 yards to put the visitors in front.
The Eagles immediately responded after a pair of penalties forced the kickoff deep on the North Park half, driving 46 yards for a touchdown when
John Borsellino scampered home from 29 yards outs but the extra point missed and North Park still held the lead. The Vikings built on the lead with a 28-yard field goal to move ahead 10-6 and then scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter using the run game to stretch the lead to 31-6.
Brandin Austin hauled in a
Matt Brown pass just before the half for a 29-yard score to bring the Eagles within 31-13 at the half. Both teams traded scores in the fourth quarter to account for the final margin.
North Park (2-0) rolled up 377 yards on the ground, only passing the ball twice in the entire game. The Vikings overcame 11 penalties to post their second consecutive victory over Benedictine.
The Eagles (1-1), who are off next week, mustered 413 yards of offense. Brown threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns. Austin snared seven passes for 119 yards and a score while Borsellino rattled off 74 yards rushing on 14 carries.
