BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After falling to Illinois Wesleyan University in four sets, the Benedictine University volleyball team defeated Webster University in five sets to split at the first day of the Illinois Wesleyan University Tournament on Friday night.
The Eagles fell to IWU in four sets (19-25, 27-25, 15-25, 15-25). Abby Sattler led the Eagle offense with 38 assists while
Candice Cuppini had a team high 11 kills.
Molly Kovacich and Jacki Nudelman combined for 17 kills and
Meagan Kmieciak had 21 digs.
In the second match, BenU took Webster to five sets after losing the first game 19-25. Benedictine came back to take the second set, 25-16 but lost the third set 16-23. The Eagles lost 25-22 in the fourth but came back to take the match 15-10.
Kmieciak led all players with 31 digs with five aces. Sattler had 39 assists while
Haley Fitzgerald totaled four aces. Kovacich, Cuppini and
Kaitlin Walsh all had 10 kills.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday morning when they continue play at the second day of the IWU Tournament.
