VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Benedictine University volleyball team opened up the 2011 season in Virginia Beach, Va., splitting the first day with a 3-0 loss to host Virginia Wesleyan University followed by a 3-0 win over Union College.
In the first game, the Eagles lost 23-25, 21-25, 22-25.
Candice Cuppini and
Molly Kovacich had eight kills each while Abby Sattler and
Kara Zuro combined for 30 assists.
Meagan Kmieciak led all defenders with 22 digs.
The Eagles offense came to life in game two, totaling 37 team kills and eight aces. Cuppini led the attack with 11 kills while
Haley Fitzgerald totaled six kills, three aces and 16 digs.
Robyn Hart had six kills while Sattler had three aces and 18 assists. Kmieciak led the team with 21 digs.
Benedictine is back in action on Sunday morning when they play Hollis University at 10:00 a.m. and Fairleigh Dickinson University at 12:00 p.m.
