Jesse Ortiz and
Creighton Goss scored two second half goals half but it wasn't enough as the Eagles fell to Moody Bible Institute, 5-2, on Wednesday night in their home opener.
Moody Bible jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Josh Persson and Kujtim Rushiti scored in the 4
th and 23
rd minutes.
Edgar Reyes cut the BenU deficit in half when he scored in the 53
rd minute on a cross from Ortiz.
Moody Bible responded quickly, taking a 3-1 lead just two minutes later but Goss found the back of the net five minutes later on a cross from
Lupe Martinez. MBI would go on to score two more goals to take home the 5-2 victory.
The Eagles were outshot 17-11 but both teams tallied nine shots on goal. Ortiz led the offensive attach for BenU with three shots on goal while MIB's Rushiti had four shots on goal. Manny Martinez had four saves in the game.
The men's soccer team is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 13 when they host Lake Forest College at 7:00 p.m. at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
