Green Passes 1,000 But Second Half Costs Men's Hoops

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Nate Green surpassed the 1,000 point barrier for his career, but the Benedictine University men's basketball team allowed 49 second half points in falling at Rockford College 77-65 on Wednesday night.

Benedictine led most of the first half, jumping ahead by as many as eight when Michael Woolf buried a three with 13:52 left in the half. Keith Conway tied the game for Rockford with 1:49 to go in the half at 27 aside. The Eagles were up one at the break, 29-28.

Just five minutes into the second half the lead was again eight points after Jamison Montgomery droped home a layup. Rockford responded with an 8-0 run to even the game. Green reached the 1,000 point marker by connecting on a pair of free throws with 11:00 left in the contest. The senior is the 26th player in school history to amass 1,000 or more points. The hosts took the lead for the first time in the second half with 8:09 remaining on a Danny Fair layup. Rockford opened a double digit lead with a 14-2 run moments later and sealed the win.

Rockford (7-7, 4-2) shot 58.6 percent in the second half and 49.1 percent for the game in the win. Dominique Walker led four Regents in double figures with 21 points.

Green amassed 21 points to power Benedictine. Tim McGinty added a career best 15 while Mark Pace registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Eagles shot 41 percent in the contest, which featured 10 ties and seven lead changes.

Benedictine (4-9, 3-3) will meet Marian University on the road Saturday in Wisconsin at 4:00 p.m.
