Eagles Bounce Spartans

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team picked up their first home win of the season when they defeated Aurora University, 71-56, in Northern Athletics Conference action on Tuesday night at the Dan and Ada Rice Center. The win moves the Eagles to 3-8 in conference action.

Kam Haifleigh scored the first bucket of the game and the Eagles (6-12, 3-8 NAC) never looked back, going up by as many as 19 in the first half. At the half, BenU led 39-20. Benedictine tallied 33 rebounds at the half and were 3-8 from behind the arc (37.5%).

The second half was much the same with Michelle Gaede and Tracey Walsh tallying buckets early to see the Eagles take their largest lead of the contest, a 28-point margin. Benedictine shot over 44% from the field in the second half and were an impresive 4-5 from behind the arc. The Eagles went on to win 71-56. 

Benedictine was 22-31 from the free-throw line and out-rebounded the Spartans (2-6, 1-10 NAC) 59-27. The Eagles forced 14 AU turnovers on 11 BenU steals.

Leading the offense for BenU was Megan Novak who tallied a career high 24 points. The freshman guard was 4-5 from behind the arc and 8-9 from the free-throw line. Katie Hunzinger totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds while Gaede scored nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

JaQuitta Walker led Aurora with 14 points.

The women's basketball team is back in action on Saturday night when they travel to Alverno College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
