Win Streak Reaches Five; Men's Hoops Scores Non-Conference Win

Box Score BELOIT, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team overcame a slow start to take down Beloit College 73-64 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon and run its season best win streak to five games.

Beloit scored the first eight points of the contest and held an 11-1 lead just over three minutes into the contest following a three-point play from Tyler Butke. Benedictine quickly scored six straight points, four from Raphael Oglesby, to pull within 11-7. The hosts again gained some seperation, bolting ahead by eight points at 17-9 with 13:13 remaining in the opening 20 minutes. Justin Johnson opened a 9-0 run with a jumper and Nate Green put the Eagles in front for the first time at 18-17 by scoring with 9:01 left.

Down three, a 13-0 run put Benedictine in front for good. Jamison Montgomery opened the scoring in the stretch and Green connected on a pair of free throws with 1:29 to play in the first to turn what was a double-digit deficit into a double-digit lead at 31-21.

Benedictine, who led 33-25 at the break, did not trail the remainder of the rare midseason non-conference showdown, but Beloit did make several second half pushes. A free throw from Michael Horton brought the hosts within a point at 53-52 with 5:16 to go. Up just two points with 3:24 remaining, the Eagles received consecutive threes from Alex Edmondson and Michael Woolf to move in front by eight. Benedictine led by as many as 10 in the final minute to secure the victory.

Nate Green led all scorers with 18 points and also dished out five assists. Montgomery added 10 in the victory. Benedictine (9-10) returns home on Tuesday sitting in first place in the South Division and will welcome Concordia Chicago to the Rice Center for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
