Box Score WILWAUKEE, Wis. - Despite being down 27-23 at halftime, the Benedictine University women's basketball team outscored Alverno College in the second half to take home a 52-49 victory in Northern Athletics Conference action on Saturday night.
Alverno College (5-14, 2-11 NAC) tallied 24 total rebounds in the first half, 13 offensive to help them to a four-point advantage at halftime.
The second half opened with the Eagles (7-12, 4-8 NAC) going on a 13-0 run to take a four-point lead after buckets from Megan Novak,
Tracey Walsh,
Michelle Gaede and
Mary Calov. The Inferno threated the Eagle lead several times in the half, coming within one in the final minutes of the game but Gaede sank two clutch free throws in the final seconds to secure the BenU 52-49 victory.
Gaede led the Eagles with 14 points and tallied five rebounds while Walsh scored 12 points and three steals. Novak scored seven points and had four assists.
As a team, BenU shot 41.0 percent from the field and 45.5 perecent from behind the arc. The Eagles were out-rebounded 41-27.
Alicia Kontowski led AC with 12 points.
The women's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 1 when they travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering for a 7:00 pm contest.
