In a five-set thriller, the Benedictine University volleyball team clinched a share of the Northern Athletics Conference regular season title with a 3-2 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday night.

Benedictine (24-3, 11-1 NAC) took the first set over Wisconsin Lutheran (13-17, 6-6 NAC) 25-21 and the Warriors tallied 11 kills to take the second set 26-24. The Eagles bounced back to claim a 25-20 third set victory. Both teams had over 16 kills in the fourth set which saw WLC win 35-33. Benedictine took a 14-5 lead in the fifth set but Wisconsin Lutheran would not give up, recording four straight points before BenU tallied their final point for the 15-9 win.

Candice Cuppini led all players with 23 kills while Nicole Adams had nine kills and three block assists. Defensively, Haley Fitzgerald recorded 16 digs and Kara Zuro had 15 digs.

The Eagles claim a share of the NAC title with Edgewood College, who will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and the Eagles will be the No. 2 seed.

Before BenU begins the NAC Tournament, they will host the annual Eagle Classic this weekend, taking on North Park University and University of Chicago on Friday night followed by matches against North Central College and Wisconsin Stevens Point on Saturday.

As the No. 2 seed in the NAC Tournament, the Eagles will host the No. 7 seed, Wisconsin Lutheran, on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center.
