The Benedictine University volleyball team ended the first day of the Eagle Classic with a win over No. 12 University of Chicago, defeating the Maroons in four sets. The Eagles defeated North Park University in their first match of the day.
Against Chicago, three Eagles tallied double-digit kills including
Candice Cuppini (15),
Nicole Adams (14) and
Kaitlin Walsh (14).
Molly Kovacich had nine kills, four aces and 12 digs while
Kara Zuro led BenU with 23 digs. Abby Sattler recorded 43 assists and 11 digs. As a team, Benedictine (26-3) out-hit Chicago 56-40 kills and out-dug them 84-62. The Eagles had 10 service aces and six team blocks.
Benedictine beat North Park 25-16 in the first set, tallying a match high 16 kills. In the second set, the Eagles trailed early on but came back to win 26-24. In the final set, BenU won 25-17.
Cuppini led all players with 16 kills while Adams tallied 11 kills and had four block assists. Sattler recorded 30 assists and 12 digs while
Haley Fitzgerald had nine digs.
Benedictine is back in action Saturday morning when they host North Central College at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. contest against Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
