The Benedictine University volleyball team went 3-1 at their annual Eagle Classic. After defeating North Park University and No. 12 University of Chicago on Friday night, the Eagles beat North Central College in four sets but fell to No. 20 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon.
Against North Central, Benedictine (27-4) had 48 kills and 72 digs as a team. After winning the first set 25-19, BenU held NCC to a negative htiting percentage in the second set, winning 25-15. The Cardinals took set three but BenU tallied 12 kills in the fourth set for the 25-19 win.
Candice Cuppini led all players with 15 kills while
Nicole Adams had 14 kills and three block assists and two solo blocks.
Molly Kovacich recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs.
Haley Fitzgerald led all players with 16 digs.
In the second match of the day, Benedictine rallied from behind in the second set but lost a close one, 25-22, to Stevens Point. Despite recording 14 kills in the second set, UWSP won 25-20 and took home the 3-0 win with a 25-15 third set victory.
Cuppini led BenU with 13 kills while Abby Sattler had 31 assists and 14 digs.
Benedictine is back in action on Tuesday night when they host Wisconsin Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center for the first round of the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament.
