LISLE, Ill. - Three Eagles tallied double-digit kills and five recorded double-digit digs as the Benedictine University volleyball team defeated Dominican University 3-2 in a nail biting Northern Athletics Conference semifinal match on Thursday night to advance to the NAC championship.
The Eagles (29-4) took the first two sets from Dominican (25-7) before falling in the third set, 26-24. The fourth set saw both teams tally over 16 kills but the Stars pulled ahead for the 26-24 win. In the fifth set, the teams battled back and forth. With nine kills and just one error, BenU took home the 15-11 win to advance to the NAC championship.
Candice Cuppini led all players with 24 kills while
Molly Kovacich had 18 kills and a team-high 20 digs. Abby Sattler recorded 52 assists and 18 digs and
Nicole Adams had 10 kills and five block assists.
Haley Fitzgerald recorded 16 digs and
Kara Zuro had 18 digs.
Meagan Kmieciak had two aces and 10 digs.
As a team, BenU had 68 kills, 103 digs and seven blocks.
The Eagles travel to the No. 1 seed, Edgewood College, on Saturday night to play for the NAC championship. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. The game will be shown live at
