Men’s Basketball Falls at Home to Dominican

Box Score Despite leading by seven at the half, the Benedictine University Men's Basketball team was unable to pull out the victory Wednesday night. The Eagles lost 84-79 to Northern Athletics Conference opponent Dominican at the Dan and Ada Rice Center.

The Stars (3-4, 2-1 NAC) got out to an early 20-9 lead. However, BenU (2-6, 1-2) was able to close the gap quickly. Behind 46 percent shooting and making five of seven three point attempts, the Eagles stormed ahead and led 43-36 at halftime.

The pace of the game would slow down in the second half, as a combined 49 free throws were attempted (Dominican 25, Eagles 24). While both teams shot at or above 80 percent from the charity stripe, BenU struggled from the field, shooting 34.8 percent in the half and missing all nine of their three-point attempts. Behind Anthony Keener's 16 second half points, Dominican took the lead with twelve and a half minutes to go and held off a late run by the Eagles to earn the victory.

Michael Woolf led all scorers with 20 points, the second time this season he hit the 20-point mark. Tim McGinty put together one of his strongest games of the year, finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and shooting 12-of-16 from the free throw line. Drake Danford came off the bench to add 18 points in just 17 minutes.

Benedictine has a few days off before traveling to NAC foe Rockford College, who is off to a 2-0 start in conference play. The game is a part of a doubleheader with the women, with the women's game tipping off at 2 p.m. and the men scheduled to get started at 4:15 p.m.
