RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Eagles jumped out to an early seven-point lead against Dominican University on Wednesday night, but the Stars hot shooting proved too much for the Benedictine University women's basketball team as they dropped a 71-52 decision to Dominican in their final regular season game of the year.
Megan Novak sank a three-pointer followed by buckets from
Kam Haifleigh and
Michelle Gaede to give the Eagles (9-15, 6-11 NAC) a seven-point lead. Dominican (17-7, 13-4 NAC) turned up the heat and went on a 7-0 run of their own and took their first lead of the game with 10 minutes remaining.
The Stars went up by as many as 21 in the first half and took a 41-22 lead at halftime.
Dominican continued their hot shooting in the second half, going up by as many as 27. The Stars went on to defeat the Eagles 71-52.
Vincenza Ranallo led the Eagles with 10 points and tallied five rebounds while Gaede scored nine points. As a team, BenU was 16-53 from the field (30.2 percent).
Sara Budz led the Stars with 15 points.
The Eagles will host Marian University in the NAC Challenge game on Saturday, February 18 at 2:00 pm in the Rice Center. The winner of the game will be the No. 7 seed and the loser the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament.
