The Benedictine University volleyball team dropped its second straight match, falling in three sets to Dominican University on Wednesday night in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.
In the first set, BenU (14-12, 8-2 NACC) recorded 10 kills but allowed Dominican (20-9, 9-1 NACC) to go on an 8-2 run halfway through the match and to eventually win 25-16. The Eagles took an early lead in the second set with kills from
Candice Cuppini and
Brooke Bowman but the Stars offense was too much to handle as they tallied 15 kills and took the match 25-16.
Benedictine trailed early in the third set and could never recover, allowing DU to go on a 16-3 run to take the set 25-12.
Bowman led the Eagles with seven kills and had three block assists while Cuppini and
Nicole Adams each recorded five kills.
Breanna Hamerlinck led the team with 15 digs and
Molly Kovacich tallied nine digs. Abby Sattler had 18 assists for BenU with seven digs.
As a team, the Stars out-hit the Eagles 46-23 and had 55 digs compared to BenU's 41. The Eagles did have four team blocks.
Benedictine volleyball is back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Rockford University for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
