The Benedictine University volleyball team defeated Lawrence University in three straight sets on Saturday afternoon in day two of the Eagle Classic, but fell to Carthage College in the nightcap ,3-0.
The Eagles (16-15) out-hit Lawrence 44-26 including 10 kills from
Molly Kovacich. Abby Sattler was just shy of a triple-double with nine kills, 29 assists and 11 digs.
Nicole Adams and
Brooke Bowman recorded eight and seven kills, respectively.
Haley Fitzgerald led all players with 22 digs while
Breanna Hamerlinck tallied 10 digs and three aces.
In the second match, Benedictine held Carthage close in all three sets but could not come up with a win (25-18, 25-18, 25-20). Kovacich led all Eagles with 16 kills and also tallied 11 digs. Fitzgerald led all players with 22 kils while Hamerlinck recorded nine digs.
Kovacich was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Eagles continue their hunt for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championship on Tuesday night when they host Aurora University at 7:00 p.m. in the NACC Tournament quarterfinals.
