LISLE, Ill. - After sharing their first ever Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championship, the Benedictine University men's soccer team had their season end with a 2-0 loss to Edgewood College in the tournament semifinals.
Edgewood scored in the 18th minute on a header to finish a cross and open the scoring early. Benedictine held a 6-5 advantage in the first 45 minutes in shots. Benedictine put together a strong sequence over four minutes midway through the half but couldn't find a way to tie the score.
Eric Lukitsh was denied and two attempts fell off target.
Benedictine had several attempts early in the second half to even the score but Edgewood extended the margin to 2-0 on a rebound goal in the 61st minute. Benedictine packed the offensive zone and continued to create chances but the defense held for Edgewood.
Benedictine held a 19-9 advantage in shots including 13 in the second half with six attempts coming in the final 15 minutes of the contest.
Anes Kadiric produced six shots while Jonny Leman notched five and
Edgar Reyes three.
Zorohn Reed stopped three shots in goal.
Benedictine, who is 0-4 all-time in tournament play, finishes the season with a 9-9-1 record.
