LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team survived a second half rally from Concordia University Chicago to post a 76-72 win on Tuesday night.
Benedictine led by double figures in the first half, taking control with a 12-5 run finished with a three from
Vincenza Ranallo with 1:19 to play in the half. The Eagles shot 51.7 percent from the field in the half and led 38-28 at the intermission.
Concordia Chicago came all the way back to take the lead in the second half. The visitors used an 11-0 run spanning over four minutes to open a 58-57 lead just past the midway point of the second. A quick triple from Ranallo put Benedictine back in front but Concordia Chicago went on to lead by three at 63-60 with 6:27 remaining. The final minutes of the game were back and forth. Concordia Chicago had the lead at 72-71 with less than a minute to play but a pair of free throws from
Alanna Ferry put Benedictine ahead for good.
The contest featured 15 lead changes and five ties.
Meghan Novak led Benedictine with 20 points. Ranallo added 18 with Ferry netting 17. Ferry grabbed eight rebounds and added four assists.
Benedictine (4-5, 4-2) will take part in the Daytona Beach Shootout on Friday and Saturday in Florida.
