Men's Basketball Drops Tight Game at Aurora

AURORA, Ill. - Aurora hit a pair of free throws with just over nine seconds to play to record a 75-74 win over the Benedictine University men's basketball team on Tuesday night.

Aurora built a double-digit lead in the first half, using an 8-0 run to pull ahead 29-18 with 10:36 to play in the first half. Benedictine continued to trail through the half, trimming the deficit to four at the break by scoring the final four points of the half.

Tim Reamer dropped home a layup as part of a 6-0 run early in the second to put Benedictine ahead at 44-43. Aurora again rebounded to move ahead by 11 points. Benedictine used a 15-4 run to tie the game at 63 following a pair of free throws from Reamer with 8:24 remaining. The Eagles opened a four point lead when Dale Renshaw extended the run to 19-4 with a jumper. The final five minutes were nip and tuck. Tim McGinty deposited a layup to hand Benedictine a 74-73 lead with 2:55 to go, a lead that held until the game winning free throws with nine seconds left.

"We battled tonight," said head coach Keith Bunkenburg. "I am proud of our effort but we still have not played our best basketball this year."

Benedictine shot 39.4 percent from the field in the contest and held a commanding 50-33 edge on the glass. Four players scored in double figures led by 14 each from Reamer and Michael Blaszczyk. Michael Woolf added 12 with McGinty grabbing 11 boards.

Benedictine (1-5, 0-2) continues a busy week with a Thursday night home game against Concordia Chicago.
