AURORA, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team improved to 2-1 in NACC play with a 63-54 win at Aurora.
The first half was even with neither team leading by more than five points. Trailing by five points just before the midway point of the half, Benedictine used a 10-2 run to take the lead.
Briana Hamilton put the Eagles ahead with a basket at the 7:19 mark. Benedictine held a 29-27 lead at the break following a pair of free throws from
Alanna Ferry with 1:48 to go.
Benedictine quickly opened the second half with a 13-2 run to extend the advantage to 42-29. The Eagles hit four three-pointers during the run, three from
Meghan Novak. Aurora trimmed the deficit to six points midway through the second, but five straight keyed by another Novak three again extended the lead to double figures. The hosts clawed within six again with 2:13 to go, but Benedictine held on for the win.
The Eagles shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the second half to help put away Aurora. Benedictine finished the contest at 38.6 percent. The second half saw Benedictine connect on seven of nine three-point attempts, knocking down nine for the game. Novak finished with a season high 20 points while
Vincenza Ranallo added 14.
Benedictine (2-4, 2-1) will return to the floor on Saturday night against Concordia Wisconsin.
